Research has involved assessing the mechanisms of de-nitration of nitrogen-rich austenitic stainless steels due to welding. Particular focus is on weld pool nitrogen retention/absorption and mechanical property improvements as a function of shielding gas/flux composition.
Current research includes weld distortion studies of stiffened plates using thermo-mechanical modelling, in collaboration with BAE Systems.
Other work involved development of innovative Health and Safety management systems in engineering.
