Research interests include the use of Moiré interferometry as an experimental tool for the validation of computational modelling of multi-layered multi-directional composite materials.
Research has also been carried out on residual stress patterns resulting from hole expansion in an infinite plate, a thick cylinder and an asymmetric lug. In each case, a hole expansion process was used, whereby the bore was expanded into the plastic regime. thus leaving residual compression at the bore and residual tension in the far field.
Previous research involved measurement of energy release rates for delaminations in composite materials, a paper which won the M Hetényi Award for Best Paper in Experimental Mechanics.
Prizes and Awards
Awarded the M Hetényi Award for Best Paper in Experimental Mechanics.
